Pregnancy is a wonderful time, but everyone knows it is packed with challenges. Being with a child can make enjoying the simple things much more difficult—sex being one of them. Sex while carrying a baby has an awful reputation for being awkward, painful and uncomfortable, leaving some people wondering if it is even possible or worth it. While having sex during your pregnancy is completely safe as long as your pregnancy is proceeding normally, you can have sex as often as you like and rest assured it doesn’t have to be awkward or uncomfortable. Read on for some great positions to try that will make any mom-to-be feel more comfortable, confident and sexy in the bedroom during her nine-month journey to parenthood.
Girl on Top
This may not seem like the most obvious position for a pregnant woman to try, but if you don’t give this one a shot, you’re missing out! The magic of this position is that you control everything from speed to depth. The cervix can become pretty sensitive during gestation so being in control can make sex a sultry session between you and your partner, plus your partner will enjoy the view, so that is a massive bonus.
Edge of the Bed
Lay with your bottom at the edge of your bed. Your partner will stand or get on his knees at the floor in front of you to enter, depending on bed height. This position is great because it gives you a lovely spinal stretch, moves your tummy out of the way, and makes it so that he cannot penetrate as deeply due to the angle of the vagina. The work is in his hands for this position so this gives you a chance to relax and enjoy.
The Lap Pose
Have your partner sit on the bed or a chair. With your back facing him, sit on his lap and allow him to penetrate you. Again, with you on top you control the speed and intensity, making this another great position for this time in your life. You call the shots, so keep it slow, go crazy, or sit still and let him do the thrusting. He can pull you down onto him, or he can lightly stroke your back for a more sensual vibe.
Spooning
In this position, lay with your partner. Your back should touch his chest. He enters from behind, and you’re ready to go. This position is fantastic for women who are later in their pregnancy when sex can be just plain difficult. Because you aren’t facing your partner, you don’t have to worry about your baby bump getting in the way. The bed will support your belly and help minimize the amount of pressure placed on it.
Time to Practice!
Some women swear by sex during gestation, others may feel a bit more distant from the idea. Increased blood flow to the pelvic area and the heightened sensitivity of all their erogenous zones may result in it making it the best sex you’ve ever experienced. In addition, the possibility for an increase in vaginal discharge may also be a plus. One thing you may also feel, which may not be so great is some mild abdominal cramping during or immediately after intercourse or orgasm. Whether you’re ramping up the physical intimacy or slowing down a bit, remember to respect your body and enjoy yourself, do what is comfortable to you, and go have some fun!
